BMW E90 325i/xi, 330i/xi N52 Eccentric Shaft Sensor
BMW's Valvetronic variable valve lift mechanism actually replaces conventional throttle-body controlled power delivery. An electronically-actuated eccentric shaft varies the intake valve lift height when you press down on the accelerator pedal, regulating power.
The importance of a properly functioning eccentric shaft sensor is therefore obvious. Poor fuel economy, engine power loss, and starting difficulty are just a few of the symptoms of a failing ES sensor.
