While the B-series engines are a significant improvement over the older M and N series engines in terms of power and reliability, they are not without their own issues. Unfortunately, two of these issues found on the B48 engine can result in catastrophic engine damage if not addressed early enough.
The first major issue is the coolant and oil channels in the factory plastic oil filter housing. The seals that seal the oil filter housing and these individual channels to the engine block begin to fail over time. As the oil filter housing ages, the plastic also becomes brittle and can warp, crack, and even completely break away. These failures can lead to oil and coolant leaks, and at worst, the infamous "milkshake" as a result of these two fluids mixing. This will cause immediate damage to sensitive metal-to-metal contact points in the engine, such as main bearings, rod bearings, camshaft journals, etc., requiring a full engine rebuild or replacement. Unfortunately for most BMW owners, if this occurs, it will most likely happen well outside of BMW's factory drivetrain warranties.
The second major issue is the failure of the Heat Management Module, aka the coolant thermostat assembly or thermostat module. This modern electronically controlled thermostat assembly is designed to direct the flow of coolant around the engine, precisely controlling the temperatures of the block and cylinder head under a wide variety of operating conditions. While the design and function of this module are impressive, allowing for great control of engine temperatures, the introduction of electric motors and other moving parts practically ensures eventual failure. When this occurs, temperatures cannot be easily controlled, which will result in overheating and damage if not noticed and addressed quickly.
Our line of Oil Filter Housing & Heat Management Module Kits was created with the replacement of these components in mind, while also including upgrades where possible the alleviate the need to repeat this job in the future.
The Level 2 replacement kit contains both of the main components necessary to get your engine back up and running, plus the additional items we highly recommend replacing while you have everything opened up. Included in this kit is a URO Premium Aluminum Oil Filter Housing, which features full aluminum construction inside and out, a brand new Genuine BMW coolant thermostat module, plus a new coolant pump assembly with all new coolant flanges. The aluminum oil filter housing construction helps reduce the likelihood of warping and cracking in the oil and coolant channels, keeping your fluids separate and preventing catastrophic failure! A new coolant thermostat module resets the clock, so to speak, ensuring many more years of worry-free operation. The brand new full coolant pump assembly replaces the water pump, water pump pulley, the main support housing, and the 4 factory plastic coolant flanges, which could become a headache if not replaced now. Also included are two critical coolant hoses known to leak, the thermostat coolant pipe, a gallon of HT-12 (green) concentrated coolant, a new accessory belt and tensioner, plus intake manifold gaskets and a throttle body gasket.

All you need is your order number and email address.
New/Unused Product Returns
ECS Tuning will accept returns for unused products within 90 days of the ship date for a refund to the original payment method used. The customer is responsible for the return shipping costs and fees. If selecting to use a prepaid shipping label, the shipping cost will be deducted from the total refunded amount. All new/unused products must be new, unused and must be in the original packaging, including labeling, manuals, hardware, etc. Special order parts are non-refundable.
In the event that we find an error on our website or on behalf of an ECS Tuning Representative, we will provide a return shipping label from the original delivery location.
Refused Packages
Any domestic orders that are returned to ECS Tuning as refused by receiver or non-deliverable will be subject to a return handling fee and will be processed as a return in compliance with our standard return policy, including a 15% restocking fee.
Any international orders that are refused at the time of delivery will be subject to carrier abandonment of the package, at which time the ordered products would be discarded by the carrier. The customer will not be refunded for the value of the order and the discarded products are no longer retrievable.

To get started, simply log into your ECS Tuning account, Click the "View Orders" button on the My Account home page and select the order that you wish to make a return on to begin. Please note: Refunds will be processed to the original payment method used on the order or to an in store credit, respective to the type of return that is made as well as any pre-existing arrangements with an ECS Tuning Customer Service Representative. In the event that multiple forms of payment were used, we will refund the value to an in store credit. In the event that a return label is provided, these charges may be deducted from the total refund you receive.
Original shipping costs are non-refundable and the buyer is responsible for return shipping charges. ECS Tuning will not accept COD deliveries.
All in store credit balances will expire after one year from the original purchase date.
