Product Details
Your engine's performance relies on split-second precision, and the crankshaft position sensor (CPS) is the heartbeat of your engine management system. By constantly monitoring the exact position and rotational speed of the crankshaft via a toothed reluctor (or tone) wheel, the CPS feeds crucial data directly to your Engine Control Unit (ECU). This allows the computer to perfectly time fuel injection pulses and ignition spark.
Located deep in the engine bay—usually near the harmonic balancer or bolted near the transmission flywheel—these magnetic or Hall-effect sensors are subjected to extreme heat, relentless vibration, and road debris. Over time, these harsh conditions cause the internal circuitry to short out. When your ECU loses its timing reference from a failing sensor, you are left with a poorly running engine or completely stranded.
Common Signs of a Failing Crankshaft Position Sensor:
The Dreaded No-Start: The ECU needs to see positive RPM from the CPS to initiate spark and fuel. If the computer gets no signal—or an erratic one—the engine will crank indefinitely without ever firing up.
Warm Engine Stalling: A classic CPS failure symptom. As the sensor heats up and its internal resistance changes, the signal can drop out entirely, causing the engine to suddenly stall when coming to a stop.
Random, Multi-Cylinder Misfires: Unlike a bad ignition coil that isolates a misfire to a single cylinder, a failing crank sensor throws off the timing for the entire engine, causing random, frustrating misfires across all cylinders at once.
High-RPM Hesitation & Rough Idle: As the sensor degrades, it may struggle to send accurate, in-range signals at specific engine speeds. This leads to timing drift, high-RPM break-up, and a horribly unstable idle.
Bouncing or Dead Tachometer: On many older vehicles, the tachometer gets its reading directly from the CPS output. An erratic, jumping, or completely dead needle paired with running issues is a major red flag.
Check Engine Light (P0335): A complete loss of signal or internal wiring failure will frequently throw a P0335 code. However, be aware that a failing CPS will not always trigger a check engine light before causing drivability issues!

All you need is your order number and email address.
New/Unused Product Returns
ECS Tuning will accept returns for unused products within 90 days of the ship date for a refund to the original payment method used. The customer is responsible for the return shipping costs and fees. If selecting to use a prepaid shipping label, the shipping cost will be deducted from the total refunded amount. All new/unused products must be new, unused and must be in the original packaging, including labeling, manuals, hardware, etc. Special order parts are non-refundable.
In the event that we find an error on our website or on behalf of an ECS Tuning Representative, we will provide a return shipping label from the original delivery location.
Refused Packages
Any domestic orders that are returned to ECS Tuning as refused by receiver or non-deliverable will be subject to a return handling fee and will be processed as a return in compliance with our standard return policy, including a 15% restocking fee.
Any international orders that are refused at the time of delivery will be subject to carrier abandonment of the package, at which time the ordered products would be discarded by the carrier. The customer will not be refunded for the value of the order and the discarded products are no longer retrievable.

To get started, simply log into your ECS Tuning account, Click the "View Orders" button on the My Account home page and select the order that you wish to make a return on to begin. Please note: Refunds will be processed to the original payment method used on the order or to an in store credit, respective to the type of return that is made as well as any pre-existing arrangements with an ECS Tuning Customer Service Representative. In the event that multiple forms of payment were used, we will refund the value to an in store credit. In the event that a return label is provided, these charges may be deducted from the total refund you receive.
Original shipping costs are non-refundable and the buyer is responsible for return shipping charges. ECS Tuning will not accept COD deliveries.
All in store credit balances will expire after one year from the original purchase date.
