Product Details
The modern Mercedes-Benz 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 engines—including the M260, M264, and mild-hybrid M254 found in late-model vehicles like the A220, C300, GLC300, and GLB250—are marvels of forced-induction efficiency. To precisely manage this turbocharged power, your Engine Control Module (ECM) relies heavily on the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor.
Mounted directly to the intake manifold or charge pipe, this highly sensitive Bosch component continuously measures the exact pressure (boost) and density of the air entering the engine. The ECM uses this critical data in real-time to adjust fuel injection volume and regulate the turbocharger's electronic wastegate. However, because this sensor sits directly in the pressurized intake tract, it is constantly exposed to intense heat and oily blow-by vapor from the PCV system. Over tens of thousands of miles, this oily vapor can coat and degrade the delicate internal piezoelectric measuring element, causing it to send skewed data to the computer.
Common Signs of a Failing M260/M264 MAP Sensor:
Check Engine Light & OBD-II Codes: A failing sensor will quickly trigger a Check Engine Light, typically accompanied by codes related to "Manifold Absolute Pressure Circuit Range/Performance" (P0106) or "Boost Pressure Regulation."
Limp Mode & Power Loss: If the ECM receives missing or irrational boost data, it will instantly open the wastegate and disable the turbocharger to prevent catastrophic engine damage, leaving your vehicle incredibly slow.
Rough Idle & Surging: You may experience an erratic, bouncing idle, hesitation under heavy throttle, or jerky acceleration as the ECU struggles to balance the air-fuel mixture without accurate pressure data.
Decreased Fuel Economy: Incorrect pressure readings often cause the engine to run excessively "rich," dumping unburnt fuel into the exhaust and drastically lowering your MPG.
ECS Tuning Recommends for 2.0L Turbo Owners: Do not ignore underboost or overboost codes! While a failing MAP sensor is a common culprit, you must also visually inspect your plastic charge pipes and intercooler hoses for cracks or loose clamps. A physical boost leak will cause the exact same symptoms and codes as a failed MAP sensor.
Tech Tip: When removing the old sensor, ensure the mounting port on the intake is completely free of oil sludge and carbon before installing the new one. Check the electrical connector for any oil that may have wicked up the harness, as this will ruin the new sensor's readings.
Essential Tools & Hardware for the Job
Replacing the MAP sensor is a very accessible DIY that can instantly cure drivability issues, but dealing with the factory hardware and delicate electrical connectors requires the right supplies. We highly recommend adding these items to your ECS Tuning cart before starting the repair:
Schwaben 100-Piece Specialty Bit Kit (ECS Part #: ES#2500878): Mercedes-Benz routinely uses specialized Torx or E-Torx fasteners to secure sensors to the intake manifold. Standard hex bits will not work, but this comprehensive kit includes the exact bits needed to remove the sensor without stripping the screws.
CRC QD Electronic Cleaner (ECS Part #: ES#2804752): Oil blow-by from a failing sensor can sometimes push past the internal seals and contaminate the wiring harness. Spray out the vehicle-side connector thoroughly before plugging in your new sensor to ensure a perfect micro-voltage connection.
Schwaben 4-Piece Pick and Hook Set (ECS Part #: ES#3098555): The plastic locking tabs on Mercedes-Benz electrical connectors become incredibly brittle from under-hood heat. A small pick allows you to gently lift the locking tab without snapping it off.
Uncompromising OE Bosch Quality (Part # 0261232020)
When dealing with the hyper-sensitive boost control electronics of a modern Mercedes-Benz turbo engine, you should never compromise with cheap, inferior aftermarket sensors. The engine computer relies on incredibly precise voltage readings to safely manage turbo boost; generic sensors often lack this exact calibration, resulting in dangerous pressure spikes or returning Check Engine Lights.
Manufactured by Bosch, the pioneer of modern engine management systems, this direct-replacement MAP Sensor (replacing Mercedes-Benz OE number 0091538628) delivers the exact factory fitment, thermal resistance, and precise pressure calibration your turbocharged vehicle requires. By choosing this high-quality Bosch replacement, you bypass the heavy dealership markup while guaranteeing seamless integration with your ECU, restoring the crisp, reliable boost your 2.0L engine was designed for.
