All too often OEM components sacrifice performance in an effort to appeal to a wide variety of customers. While an enthusiast typically wants better boost response and more power, all while hearing the turbocharger breathe, a non-enthusiast may give up these characteristics for a quieter ride. In the case of the factory turbo inlet pipe, mounted between the compressor housing and air intake hose, its purpose is to channel air from the inlet hose into the turbocharger inlet, all while reducing engine bay acoustics and sacrificing quality materials in favor of cheap molded plastic material. With the ECS MQB Big Bore Turbo Inlet Pipe, the factory inlet pipe is removed and replaced with our straight-through, high flow 6061-T6 aluminum inlet. This increases available airflow and turbocharger working sound by creating a larger, smoother transition between the turbo inlet hose and compressor housing inlet.
Inlet Elbow is made from CNC bent 70mm OD, thin wall 6061-T6 aluminum for maximum airflow capacity and is designed to work in combination with OEM / OE-Location Turbo Inlet Hoses. It features a bead rolled inlet to keep your inlet hose secured during engine movement while under load.
Compressor Inlet Flange is made from billet machined 6061-T6 aluminum and features a bellmouth inlet design for smooth air entry into the compressor housing and is TIG welded to the inlet elbow tube. The CNC inlet flange also features OEM retaining grooves, it reuses the OEM sealing O-ring for a perfect fit and seal, and is masked off prior to powdercoating for precision fitment within the compressor housing.
CNC-Machined PCV adapter is TIG welded to the inlet tube and is compatible with both "clip" and "constant-pressure" style OEM PCV hose attachments as well as ECS -10AN PCV Hose Adapters. It too is masked off before powdercoating for a more precise fitment, unlike other options on the market.
Locating Arm is made from 6061-T6 aluminum and is TIG welded in position to retain compatibility with the OEM locating fastener and its mounting location.
A durable Wrinkle Black Powdercoat finish keeps our Inlet Pipe looking great and maintains a stealth-like appearance once installed
Our ECS Big Bore Turbo Inlet Pipe was tested in-house on our Research & Development VW MK7 GTI with a Cobb Stage 3 AP Tune, Milltek 3.0" Turbo Back Exhaust System, ECS Intercooler Charge Pipes and an ECS Air Intake System and produced excellent mid-range power increases of +10 WHP and +15 ft/lbs of wheel torque between 3,700 RPM - 4,200 RPM. We also observed an increase of +4.4 WHP and +6.7 ft/lbs of wheel torque at peak power output, maintaining that an overall increase in power throughout the entire RPM band is achievable with our simple bolt on upgrade!
With the larger and smoother inlet, torque is brought on sooner and is maintained into the upper RPM power band.
A slight increase in turbocharger working sound can also be observed on vehicles with some aftermarket air intakes.
