Parts such as the camshafts, balance shafts, and injection pump need to be perfectly synchronized in order for your engine to run. In order to accomplish this, the engine uses a timing chain. Over the years, after traveling many miles, the timing chain can begin to wear and needs to be replaced.
During timing chain service, it is important to replace other timing components. One such component are the timing chain guide rails. These rails are located in the timing case, and give the timing chain a smooth, guided surface to ride on, however, due to their location inside of the timing case, they become weak, and will eventually break due to numerous heating and cooling cycles.
If you are replacing your timing chain, do yourself a favor and replace the guide rails as well. ECS Tuning carries a full line of timing components for your Mercedes-Benz engine so you can keep it running perfectly for years to come.
