The Mercedes-Benz M274 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 engine, found in the 2016-2018 C300, GLC300, and SLK300, delivers a fantastic balance of peppy, responsive power and excellent highway fuel economy. To achieve this precise engine management, your Engine Control Module (ECM) relies entirely on the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor—often referred to as the Hot-Film Air Mass Meter.
Mounted directly in the intake tract just before the turbocharger, this highly sensitive Bosch component continuously measures the exact volume, temperature, and density of the air entering the engine. The ECM uses this critical data to calculate the precise amount of direct-injected fuel to spray and exactly how much turbo boost to request. However, over tens of thousands of miles, the delicate heated film element inside the sensor becomes coated with microscopic dust particles, pollen, and oily blow-by from the PCV system. When this element becomes insulated by dirt or burns out entirely, it sends skewed data to the computer, instantly throwing off the air-fuel mixture and turbo mapping.
Common Signs of a Failing M274 Mass Air Flow Sensor:
Check Engine Light & OBD-II Codes: A failing MAF will quickly trigger a Check Engine Light, typically accompanied by P0101 (Mass Air Flow Sensor Circuit Range/Performance) or codes indicating the short-term fuel trim is excessively rich or lean.
Limp Mode & Sluggish Acceleration: If the ECM receives irrational or missing data from the MAF, it will restrict turbo boost and put the engine into a low-power "limp mode" to protect itself from catastrophic damage.
Rough Idle & Surging: You may experience an erratic, bouncing idle, sudden hesitation when pulling away from a stop, or a transmission that feels like it's shifting harshly due to incorrect engine load calculations.
Plummeting Fuel Economy: An incorrect air-reading often causes the engine to run excessively "rich," wasting expensive premium fuel and potentially damaging your catalytic converter over time.
ECS Tuning Recommends for M274 Owners: Do not install a brand-new MAF sensor without replacing your engine air filter! The most common cause of premature MAF failure on turbocharged Mercedes-Benz engines is a dirty, clogged, or poorly fitting air filter that allows debris to sandblast the delicate hot-film element.
Tech Tip: The sensitive measuring element inside this Bosch sensor is exposed. Never touch the internal wire/film with your fingers, as the natural oils from your skin will bake onto the element and destroy it the moment the engine is started. Ensure the entire airbox housing and intake tubing are wiped completely clean before installing the new sensor.

New/Unused Product Returns
ECS Tuning will accept returns for unused products within 90 days of the ship date for a refund to the original payment method used. The customer is responsible for the return shipping costs and fees. If selecting to use a prepaid shipping label, the shipping cost will be deducted from the total refunded amount. All new/unused products must be new, unused and must be in the original packaging, including labeling, manuals, hardware, etc. Special order parts are non-refundable.
In the event that we find an error on our website or on behalf of an ECS Tuning Representative, we will provide a return shipping label from the original delivery location.
Refused Packages
Any domestic orders that are returned to ECS Tuning as refused by receiver or non-deliverable will be subject to a return handling fee and will be processed as a return in compliance with our standard return policy, including a 15% restocking fee.
Any international orders that are refused at the time of delivery will be subject to carrier abandonment of the package, at which time the ordered products would be discarded by the carrier. The customer will not be refunded for the value of the order and the discarded products are no longer retrievable.

ECS Tuning now offers an online returns solution! To get started, simply log into your ECS Tuning account, Click the "View Orders" button on the My Account home page and select the order that you wish to make a return on to begin. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to our Customer Service Team for assistance!
Please note: Refunds will be processed to the original payment method used on the order or to an in store credit, respective to the type of return that is made as well as any pre-existing arrangements with an ECS Tuning Customer Service Representative. In the event that multiple forms of payment were used, we will refund the value to an in store credit. In the event that a return label is provided, these charges may be deducted from the total refund you receive.
Original shipping costs are non-refundable and the buyer is responsible for return shipping charges. ECS Tuning will not accept COD deliveries.
All in store credit balances will expire after one year from the original purchase date.
