Your modern Mercedes-Benz E-Class BlueTEC or Sprinter van is a highly efficient machine, relying on a complex exhaust aftertreatment system and precise turbocharger control to deliver impressive torque and fuel economy. To keep this system operating safely, your Engine Control Module (ECM) relies heavily on the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) sensor.

Threaded directly into the exhaust manifold (before the turbocharger), this critical sensor acts as your ECM's primary thermometer for the engine's hottest exhaust gases. It provides real-time telemetry on the exact temperature of the exhaust as it exits the combustion chamber. The ECM uses this data to optimize the air-fuel mixture, prevent catastrophic thermal damage to the turbocharger vanes, and ensure your downstream catalytic converter and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) aren't fed exhaust that is dangerously hot. When this upstream sensor fails, the engine computer loses critical telemetry, immediately compromising engine performance and placing your turbo and emissions system at severe risk.

Common Signs of a Failing EGT Sensor:

Check Engine Light & Fault Codes: The most immediate sign is an illuminated Check Engine Light on your dashboard. The ECM will detect abnormal temperature readings or electrical inconsistencies and log specific diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in the system.
Plummeting Fuel Economy: A faulty EGT sensor can send wildly inaccurate temperature readings, causing the ECM to improperly adjust the fuel-air mixture. This inefficient combustion leads directly to higher fuel consumption and reduced MPG.
Engine Performance Issues & Limp Mode: If the ECM receives incorrect, excessively high temperature data from a failing sensor, it will proactively reduce engine power (bypassing the turbocharger) to prevent potential overheating during heavy acceleration or high-load driving. This results in sluggish performance or forces the vehicle into a heavily restricted "limp mode."

ECS Tuning Recommends for E250 & Sprinter Owners: Don't let a faulty sensor lead to a destroyed turbocharger or poor fuel mileage! Replacing this exhaust manifold EGT sensor on your 2014-2016 E250 BlueTEC or 2014-2017 Sprinter 2500 is a highly rewarding DIY fix, but it requires the right approach and the right tools.

Tech Tip: Because this sensor lives in an environment of extreme heat directly on the exhaust manifold, the threads almost always seize inside the bung. Do not use a standard open-ended wrench or you will round off the hex head! You will need a specialized 17mm slotted socket to clear the wire harness. We highly recommend using the Schwaben 14mm/17mm Slotted Line Socket (ECS Part #: ES#4419184). Soak the base of the old sensor in a high-quality penetrating oil for several hours before attempting to break it loose, and always apply high-temp anti-seize to the threads of your new sensor!

New/Unused Product Returns

ECS Tuning will accept returns for unused products within 90 days of the ship date for a refund to the original payment method used. The customer is responsible for the return shipping costs and fees. If selecting to use a prepaid shipping label, the shipping cost will be deducted from the total refunded amount. All new/unused products must be new, unused and must be in the original packaging, including labeling, manuals, hardware, etc. Special order parts are non-refundable.

In the event that we find an error on our website or on behalf of an ECS Tuning Representative, we will provide a return shipping label from the original delivery location.

Refused Packages

Any domestic orders that are returned to ECS Tuning as refused by receiver or non-deliverable will be subject to a return handling fee and will be processed as a return in compliance with our standard return policy, including a 15% restocking fee.

Any international orders that are refused at the time of delivery will be subject to carrier abandonment of the package, at which time the ordered products would be discarded by the carrier. The customer will not be refunded for the value of the order and the discarded products are no longer retrievable.

To get started, simply log into your ECS Tuning account, Click the "View Orders" button on the My Account home page and select the order that you wish to make a return on to begin. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to our Customer Service Team for assistance!

Please note: Refunds will be processed to the original payment method used on the order or to an in store credit, respective to the type of return that is made as well as any pre-existing arrangements with an ECS Tuning Customer Service Representative. In the event that multiple forms of payment were used, we will refund the value to an in store credit. In the event that a return label is provided, these charges may be deducted from the total refund you receive.

Original shipping costs are non-refundable and the buyer is responsible for return shipping charges. ECS Tuning will not accept COD deliveries.

All in store credit balances will expire after one year from the original purchase date.
