Older BMW's commonly have the issue of the odometer gears failing and getting incorrect readings. This in turn misrepresents the actual mileage of the vehicle.
If your mileage seems inaccurate or is not increasing at all, Odometer Gears provides you all the replacement gears you could possibly need to repair your system and get it working perfectly once again!
This gear is made of a higher grade, injection molded plastic that will resist wear and tear for the life of your vehicle.
To ensure you are purchasing the correct gear that you need, we recommend pulling your instrument cluster from the vehicle to determine whether it was made by VDO or MotoMeter and counting the total amount of teeth. This is the only way to be certain you are purchasing the gear you need. This particular drive gear fits the first gear position of either a VDO or MotoMeter cluster and has 12 teeth, the only option for E23, E24, E28, and E30 BMW's.
As described by Odometer Gears for US-Spec clusters:
"If your first large gear is black you have a VDO speedometer. The ONLY way to determine the correct tooth count needed for the E3 gear is to remove and count the teeth on your old gear. This is an amber colored gear, larger part will have 48 teeth, remove and count the teeth on the underside. E1 gear is always a 12 tooth drive gear, E2 is always the second gear 48x12 with a flat back (black in color), E3 gear has 48 teeth on the outside and then either 12, 14, 17, or 19 teeth on the underside gear, original gear is amber in color. If you cannot count the teeth on the main gear then count the teeth of the next gear that it meshes with. If your tooth count is 39=48x21, 41=48x19, 42=48x18, 43=48x17, 44=48x16, 45=48x15, 46=48x14, 47=48x13, 48=48x12"
If your first large gear is orange you have a MotoMeter speedometer. The MotoMeter Gears are only available with 1 4-set gear configuration of MotoMeter#1 12, MotoMeter#2 44x16, MotoMeter#3 40x22, MotoMeter#4 35x22.

New/Unused Product Returns
ECS Tuning will accept returns for unused products within 90 days of the ship date for a refund to the original payment method used. The customer is responsible for the return shipping costs and fees. If selecting to use a prepaid shipping label, the shipping cost will be deducted from the total refunded amount. All new/unused products must be new, unused and must be in the original packaging, including labeling, manuals, hardware, etc. Special order parts are non-refundable.
In the event that we find an error on our website or on behalf of an ECS Tuning Representative, we will provide a return shipping label from the original delivery location.
Refused Packages
Any domestic orders that are returned to ECS Tuning as refused by receiver or non-deliverable will be subject to a return handling fee and will be processed as a return in compliance with our standard return policy, including a 15% restocking fee.
Any international orders that are refused at the time of delivery will be subject to carrier abandonment of the package, at which time the ordered products would be discarded by the carrier. The customer will not be refunded for the value of the order and the discarded products are no longer retrievable.

ECS Tuning now offers an online returns solution! To get started, simply log into your ECS Tuning account, Click the "View Orders" button on the My Account home page and select the order that you wish to make a return on to begin. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to our Customer Service Team for assistance!
Please note: Refunds will be processed to the original payment method used on the order or to an in store credit, respective to the type of return that is made as well as any pre-existing arrangements with an ECS Tuning Customer Service Representative. In the event that multiple forms of payment were used, we will refund the value to an in store credit. In the event that a return label is provided, these charges may be deducted from the total refund you receive.
Original shipping costs are non-refundable and the buyer is responsible for return shipping charges. ECS Tuning will not accept COD deliveries.
All in store credit balances will expire after one year from the original purchase date.
