Continual heat cycling and system debris will crack and eventually stain the expansion tank, also referred to as the coolant recovery bottle. Aging coolant tanks can cause several problems, including coolant loss, a leaking pressure cap that lowers system pressure, and a failed low-coolant level sensor.
