Check these out: we have Vaico diverter valves for your 1.8T Volkswagen. Keep your boost inside the intake where it belongs, and cure common driveability concerns with this stronger, more durable VW/Audi valve, suitable for stock or mildly tuned cars. Diverter valves live in a tough neighborhood. By definition, they limit turbo boost, and most eventually fail due to a pin hole or tear in the valve diphragm. Symptoms vary, but commonly include rough idle, a loss of power, or an illuminated check engine light. Easy to install, you'll need one sooner or later, so be prepared.
