Whenever a service is performed that requires the removal of the valve cover, replacing the gasket is so simple and effective that it should be done every time. A common source of oil leaks and excessive engine smoke, the valve cover gasket seals the engine cover to the cylinder head, allowing oil to effectively lubricate your valvetrain. If you hear or feel a thumping under your center console while turning corners or accelerating, it's likely that the center support bearing in your cardan shaft has failed. Inspect the rubber around the bearing for tears, and move the driveshaft to check for excessive play at the bearing. A damaged bearing should be replaced immediately to prevent further damage.
