The BMW N54 engine relies heavily on adequate boost pressure to make its impressive power figures. Without a properly functioning boost/vacuum system, power loss, acceleration hesitation, and decreased fuel economy are all likely consequences. For this particular engine, a common source of boost leaks is the boost solenoid, oftentimes bleeding off pressure so badly that the car struggles to accelerate.
