Like many Volkswagens, manual transmission-equipped 1.8T Gen3 vehicles came from the factory with dual-mass flywheels. While this design delivers excellent comfort, smooth gear changes, and minimal vibration, it also adds significant weight and tipping the scales at a hefty 23 lbs. For performance-oriented enthusiasts, the dual-mass flywheel is a hindrance, dulling engine response and overall driving engagement. With this flaw in mind, we set out to design a lightweight, performance-minded single-mass flywheel for 5-speed, 1.8T Gen3-equipped MK6 Jettas, MK7 Golfs, and B7 Passats! My Volkswagen journey ignited with a B5.5 Passat, a car that instantly captivated me. The smooth 30V V6, married to a 5-speed manual, offered the perfect blend of comfortable backroad cruising and the thrill of a well-timed downshift. While I enjoyed the efficiency of my subsequent 2013 Jetta TDI, the allure of a spirited gasoline engine proved too strong to resist. March 2023 saw me behind the wheel of a brand new Jetta GLI, and I haven't glanced in the rearview mirror since. The IE tune unleashed a significant surge in power, while the ECS exhaust, complemented by the ARM downpipe, delivers the exact auditory experience I crave. A few years ago, when I was in the market for a new vehicle, I was seeking a sporty model with a manual transmission and strong aftermarket support. After considering options from Ford and Hyundai, I found that none of them quite met my criteria or offered the features I was looking for as the VW GTI did. Most of the modifications made to the vehicle are performance-oriented, as I frequently participate in track days and autocross events, though I have also made some stylistic updates.

Due to low-quality steel construction, rusted transmission fluid pans are commonplace on any DQ250-equipped Volkswagen or Audi . After years of exposure to dirt, water, and road salt, the thin metal that keeps the DSG fluid inside the transmission will begin to leak due to porosity caused by corrosion. Additionally, due to its flimsy stamped steel construction, the factory pan is likely to bend upon removal, requiring complete replacement as a result. Avoid these potentially catastrophic issues by replacing your transmission pan with a high-quality stainless steel version from ECS Tuning!
